Advanced Chart, Pivot Table and Dashboard Concepts - What will I cover?


By the end of the course, using practical hands-on tuition, you will have an understanding of the following features and techniques:


  1. Charting review A review of creating charts, selecting variations of popular chart types, adding and changing chart elements. Also learn to control how Excel deals with blank cells, hidden cells and time-based data.
  2. Choosing the right chart type We consider different ways to get your message across, and take a look at the less commonly used chart types, with examples of how and when they might be used.
  3. Additional charting features How and when to use combination charts, plot data against a secondary axis, display error bars, etc.  Plus, understand the different ways of exporting and managing Excel chart objects in other applications.
  4. Sparklines A new feature in Excel 2010 - a Sparkline is a mini chart displayed in a single cell. Find out how and when to use the different types of Sparklines.
  5. Sorting, Filtering and Sub-totalling We study how you might present basic tabular data in the most appropriate way, depending on the type of data, the message and the audience.
  6. Macros with charts We cover Macro basics like relative vs absolute recording mode, naming rules, locations for saving, running a macro from a button, plus editing macro scripts with the Visual Basic editor.
  7. Pivot tables Pivot Tables can quickly transform simple tabular data into clearly summarised management information. Learn to create and manipulate them easily.
  8. Pivot charts Create and manage Pivot Charts from the data in your Pivot Tables, including editing chart elements and filtering what is displayed in both.
  9. Slicers Also new in Excel 2010 –Discover how to simultaneously control and filter multiple Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts using Slicers.
  10. Dashboards Create an Excel Dashboard bringing together a graphical collection of targeted information, KPIs and other summarised data, in a flexible, interactive and user-friendly interface.
